Despite my reservations about Barcelona, I did fall in love with Sitges, a small town 40 minutes south of Barcelona where I was staying. Sitges offered an abundance of attractions, including pristine beaches, vibrant bars, delectable cuisine, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The history of the town is incredible, and I can’t recommend it enough. The town is full of old buildings, small streets, boutique independent shops, and it’s cheap for everything. I spent six days in Sitges over the course of two weeks, and I had a blast.
The town is perfect for a slower pace of life. Street photography is welcomed, and I didn’t encounter any problems. I explored the town extensively and discovered several secluded spots where I camped out, patiently awaiting the ideal moment to capture a photograph.
I stayed at a hotel called El Cid which was wonderful, the staff were so friendly and helpful, they went above and beyond to help, it was a short walk from the train station and the beach. The swimming pool was most welcoming and a great way to relax throughout the day.
I really enjoyed my time in Sitges and I would eagerly return, but it would mean flying into one of the world’s worst airports, Barcelona El Prat. Honestly, the place is a hellhole and really F expensive. €4.95 for a 750ml bottle of water, which is simply outrageous or maybe the correct word to use here would be criminal.
