Barcelona & Sitges

Sitges, a charming small town just 30 minutes from Barcelona, is a favourite of mine, much like Alicante. Its beaches are some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, with crystal-clear water that’s simply incredible. Sitges offers a wealth of experiences: great food, wonderful locals, and great independent shops, not a Starbucks or McDonald’s in sight. The town is very different from the busyness of Barcelona; the pace of life is slow, it’s all about peace and quiet, which for someone like me is heaven.

Sitges is the perfect place to unwind from the demands of modern life.  Evenings are spent watching the stunning sunsets, while early morning strolls along the beach offer a serene escape. It’s no wonder the locals are so content.

Street photography in Sitges is slow, and it’s all about waiting; moments will happen; you just have to wait. Sitges doesn’t have big, wide streets; it’s all small alleys, etc., perfect for street photography. I never feel myself becoming stressed or frustrated with my photography when I’m out in Sitges. This is going to be hard to explain, but I don’t even notice that I’m taking photos; I just do; there’s no thought; I just act. Sitges is the only place that I’ve ever done that; I just become one with the camera.

Barcelona is the complete opposite of Sitges; it’s loud and busy, and I find it hard to focus when I’m there. I’m starting to find areas in the city where I might be able to capture some good street photos, but I do think it’s going to take time. Unlike Sitges and Alicante, I don’t feel comfortable sitting outside a café waiting for moments to pass me by; Barcelona honestly makes me feel uncomfortable like I’m not meant to be there. That being said, Barcelona does have the best Magic the Gathering store I’ve ever seen, and it’s worth a visit just for that. Yes, I know, I’m a geek.

My wife and I visited Barcelona a few weeks ago. It was her first time there and she wasn’t a fan.  However, she absolutely loved Sitges.

As I love Sitges and I’m planning more trips there throughout this year, I will make the odd day trip into Barcelona, mostly on the last day as I will catch the coach from there back to the airport.

Let’s have a look at my latest batch of photos from both Sitges and Barcelona.
