Last night we experienced a solar eclipse, hailed by the media as a once-in-a-lifetime event. I decided to watch this eclipse at the River Mersey in Liverpool and of course I had my camera at the ready, not to document the eclipse but to capture all the digital zombies watching this once-in-a-lifetime event on their digital devices and they didn’t let me down.
Now, why would anyone venture out to witness a celestial event only to sit and watch it on a measly six-inch screen? It simply baffles me. Why not simply stay home and enjoy the experience on a larger screen from the comfort of your sofa? I understand some of you might argue about taking photos, but a phone camera simply won’t capture the eclipse’s grandeur; it’ll be a waste of time.
Personally, I propose a different approach: embrace the moment. Sit comfortably with some glasses on and simply watch this extraordinary event unfold before your eyes. It’s astonishing that 80% of those gathered by the river were engrossed in their phones, missing out on the true magic of the eclipse.
It’s madness, I tell you, madness.
