On day 11 of our time in Bangkok, we were having a look at the map to find somewhere to go. We discovered there was a flower market (Pak Khlong Talat) in the old part of the city, not too far from Chinatown in the Rattanakosin area. We were shocked when we arrived to discover how big this market was; some of it was in a massive warehouse of sorts, the rest of the market was spread out around the neighbourhood.
We had no idea that the market was open 24 hours a day, and I know that I would love to spend time there from when the deliveries arrive at around 2 a.m. till breakfast.
The market had open areas and small alleyways, which were perfect for capturing moments. My wife had her camera with her, and she really enjoyed taking photos in the market.
I honestly haven’t seen so many flowers in my life; the smell from the market was intoxicating. We found vendors making bouquets, flower garlands, etc., for all kinds of events. The opportunities that this opened up for me as a street shooter were exciting; unfortunately, I rushed most of the photos I took, and this is the problem I found with Bangkok in general; there is so much happening around me that I really did find it hard to slow down and focus. That being said, I still came away with photos that I was happy with.
We also came across a group of friends that were doing Thai boxing, and they had no problem with me taking photos. The trouble is I rushed the photos even though I didn’t have to, and I’m not that happy with the way they came out.
We only went to this market once, and I know that both of us would love to spend a whole day there soaking in the atmosphere of a day in the life of this incredible place.
Enjoy the photos.
